Topic: Internet, a New Technology in Africa

About technology, Africa is far behind the rest of the world. In many African countries, less than two percent has very few telephone lines compared with other countries. In fact there is only about a few lines for every 100 Africans. For example, in my country(Cameroon) especially in rural area, most people do not know much about internet. I reached hear in the USA in 2006 before starting knowing what internet was. Before reaching in this country, I had never touched a computer keyboard. At the begining, I was frustrated because everything has to be done on the computer and I had very poor skills on it.
So as there is lacking of internet technology in Africa, there are fewer internet users there than the only city of Dallas alone. The lack of telephones and computers in Africa may not seem like an important problem on a continent with many serious problems. However, more telephones lines and computers would allow more Africans to connect to internet. Through the internet, African could have better access to information and better contact with the rest of the world. In this way they could end their dependence on other and begin to take control of their own development.
In some developed countries in Africa continent, few people are already using the internet. However, there are often problems with the quality and speed of the satellite connection to the internet. Too poor, may Africans are unable to buy a home computer ; so, they can go to "cybercafes" and pay for computer use by hour. The cybercafes are especially popular with young people in my country today. They use internet to get contact with other people from other countries.
Today, the internet is also an important resource for students. school and college libraries often do not have many books . With the internet, students can access libraries and many websites around the world. They can also sign up for and follow distance learning courses at many universities in the developed countries. On useful websites like "http://www.tolearnenglish.com", many students in Cameroon can easily learn English and other languages through the internet.
Soner or later, the development and the prosperity of many Africans countries will pass through the internet that is why it is now a priority to develop that new technology.
