Dailly assignment : A Leader That Africa Needs

Topic: A Leader That Africa Needs

In the history of South Africa, the former president Nelson Mandela captured everyone who really likes democracy and peace. After spending twenty-five years in prison because of his thoughts and beliefs, the world and international organizations made pressure on the dictatorial government that finally released him. During his life in prison, he continued thinking and dreaming to see one day his own political party A N C ( African National congress) ruling his country. Released from prison in February 1990, almost all Africans manifested their excitement and it was a great day for the whole continent. More than 500 TV channels covered the event. The world community intensified the pressure to organized for the first time fair elections on which Mandela successfully won and became the first South African's black president. Previously, the country's population estimated at about thirty millions : five millions of Whites and twenty-five millions of blacks had really suffered during the Whites' regime. Event in minority, they had dominated the Blacks, applying their discriminative policy towards the majority groups. During that period, the Blacks people didn't have the right to have an appropriate education. They do not have the right to go to the same schools with Whites nor vote. They lived in two different areas and had different sports complex, churches, and so on. The Whites had the right to own handguns and use them to intimidate the Blacks. Since Mandela became president, he abolished that bad policy and established the democracy that the majority wanted. Since during his campaign he promised to take the power, apply the democracy and let the majority taking over, at the end of his first mandate, he didn't participate to the next elections. Therefore, other democratic leaders took over. Till today, the majority group governs South Africa's republic. The discrimination has disappeared in favor of democracy. All over the world, Nelson Mandela appears to be the national hero, an example to follow.
